Sonny is eating real food!

So Sonny is FINALLY eating baby food. At our last doctor visit I asked when he could start eating actual food. The doctor said we could start as early as 4 months but some people like to wait until 6 months. And the words that I clung to were “4 months”. Now I’m not one of those mothers who puts a cup a cereal in their baby’s bottle so he will sleep at night but I am that mother who has hoped beyond all hope that eating solid foods will help Sonny sleep for longer periods of time.DSCN0389

OK so on Sonny’s 4 month old bday, I went to Whole Foods (now you know it had to be a special occasion lol), And I got an organic sweet potato ($1.99) and avocado ($1.49). I also picked up a bag of organic baby carrots from Aldi ($.99). Just for fun I went down the aisle that carried baby food and Whole Foods, and just for fun I laughed at the prices. $4.00 for 3 jars of baby food, no can do! Now granted it was organic but I just couldn’t get there in my mind. And of course when I went to but my two little items, I found out my wallet was at home. Of course it was.

Food 1 – Avocado

Sonny really liked it, I recorded him, and he was screaming, no, yelling, no, hollering with joy, with every slurpy bite, as if he had been waiting for this moment his whole life! All I had to do with the avocado was scoop it out, add some breastmilk and then put it in the Magic Bullet. The only thing about avocado is that is looks pretty gross on day 2 even though I had it in the fridge in an air tight container.

Food 2 – Carrots DSCN0371

Sonny loved these even more, I steamed them then pureed them with a little water in the Magic Bullet. I am going to post a tutorial on how to do this.

Food 3 – Sweet Potato DSCN0357

It looks pretty similar to the carrots once it is pureed, just smoother.

We will probably try butternut squash after the sweet potatoes, but I gotta make another grocery store run first.

What foods has your little one tried, do you have any favorites? Let us know so we can try them out!

Love, Mommy and Sonny.

Did you know?

This info blew my mind enjoy this Mommy hack.

Okay so think about every onesie you ever put on your precious lil baby. Do you have the visual? Now think about those funky way the shoulder flaps fold to that there is a crazy wide neckline on the onesie. I was just informed that the reason onesies have those flaps is so that when your precious little pumpkin has a blow out ( you know the ones, the butterscotch pudding looking poop that goes all the way up pumpkin’s back) you can pull the onesie down instead of taking it over their head.

Did anyone else know this??? As soon as I found out I wanted to shout it from the rooftops, because Sonny has had some blowouts and I tried to do some Houdini magic to take off his onesie without getting poop in his hair. Anyway share it with everyone!

Favorite items at 3 months

Okay so as a new mommy, I of course registered for everything the Babies’ R Us had to offer. 3 months into this thing I have found some products that I really like. I decided not to bad mouth anything because hey, it I’m sure those items work for someone.

So to start off entertainment is key, without entertainment I would never get to take a shower. I didn’t get this until Sonny (code name for my son) was about 1 month old, I literally walked around Babies’ R Us for 30 minutes before I broke down and asked someone to help me. These things are pricey and I went cheap-o but hey Sonny thinks it’s awesome.

This thing provides about 20 minutes of entertainment for Sonny!!!

Sonny has begun to slobber like it’s nobody’s business, so while I thought having 30 bibs was slightly ridiculous, I have now discovered the bibs actually have value that has taken me to the moon and back. One thing that I have noticed is the velcro vs. snaps on the bibs – Personally I’m a velcro girl. I believe it or not there is a difference in velcro types, I accidentally scratched Sonny’s face with the velcro (and it left a mark – insert scary music) so I checked out the my bibs and the Koala Baby brand has this cool micro velcro.
See the bib in the middle has the scratchy velcro, and the stitching came out when I washed it!
Sonny only takes a pacifier when he is falling asleep (sad, he used to take it all the time) and believe it or not I was one of those moms that said “I’m not giving my kid a binky, I don’t want him to be buck toothed”, and anyway when he was born he went to the nursery and came back with a pacifier, and I was so upset until I saw how magical it was. I went and bought some more for a few dollars at Target!

Next I would like to introduce you to “Elephant Man”, this guy was recommended by my mother, I attached him to the handle of the car seat, this guy has helped us on two road trips. I kinda feel bad calling him “Elephant Man”, (tell me you’ve seen the movie), but hey what are you gonna do.

So add to this list, what has saved your eardrums and your sanity during the first few months of life with your little one? I’d love to know so I can add them to the blog!
